How a 1:1 art lesson can boost your confidence
I have just completed a 1 to 1 mentor course with a lovely and ‘alledgedly uncreative’ woman who said this:
I was told aged 13 to not even think about doing "O" level Art, so never picked up a pencil or paintbrush again. Now I see that was an awful thing to say to a child and so welcomed your 1:1 course that promised a 'Creativity Kickstart'' with open arms! I am absolutely thrilled with all the techniques you've shown me, the information on materials and what 'arty' words mean. We worked side by side, so you were always there for reference and knew just what exercises to go through to ensure the best results. I now feel confident enough to join a bigger class and am really excited about a potential new area of life on which to focus. You've given me so much - thank you!
Over the three weeks we spent 3 mornings exploring acrylics, gelli printing and collage. The mini exercises were designed to address hang ups gathered along the way, exploring composition- a scary and intimidating word for those who are not creative, and revealing undiscovered skills such as colour harmony, brushwork, the joyful art of creating monoprints using a gelli plate and acrylic paints and so much more.
Helen was sad to leave! she felt she had unwrapped the gift of creativity which has opened doors to other experiences.
We began with a sketchbook and sticking things in immediately to break the spell of a brand new book with too many white pages!
The idea is to fill it with rough ideas, observations, colour combinations, names of paints, materials and supplies that may come in useful on the journey ahead.
I found it so rewarding and enjoying watching her blossom and become excited at all the possibilities that lay ahead.
Get in touch if you’d like to have this experience and shake off all those negative words that have hung above your head for far too many years!
